The Holy Spirit Comes

Ten days after Jesus ascended into heaven, the believers were gathered together. Suddenly the sound of rushing wind filled the house, and they saw tongues of fire that separated and rested on each of them. The believers were filled with the Holy Spirit and could speak languages they’d never learned.

There were people in Jerusalem from many countries for the Feast of Weeks. These people were amazed when they heard the believers speaking the different languages. They could hear the gospel in their own languages.

Some people said the believers must be drunk to be speaking these languages, but Peter told them they were wrong. He boldly preached to them about Jesus. He said they needed to repent and be baptized. Over three thousand people believed in Jesus and were added to God’s family that day.

The Holy Spirit was with the believers from then on, empowering them to carry the gospel nearby and far away. God still gives his Holy Spirit to believers in order to do his work.
