If you want to rent a house or apartment, you sign an agreement with the owner. There are rules the owner will ask you to follow. The owner may not want you to have a pet that might ruin the carpet or chew on things. He or she may not want you to hang things on the wall that could damage it.
Your body is the same way. God gave you your body, and when he saved you, the Holy Spirit came to live in you. Paul refers to your body as a temple of the Holy Spirit. In Bible times, temples were carefully constructed of fine material. They were well furnished, and there were strict rules about how to take care of them. It’s important that you take good care of your body just as the people in Bible times were very careful to follow all the rules about the care of the Temple.
Every day you make choices about how to care for your body. You choose to eat junk food or healthy food. You choose to sit in front of a computer or television screen or to shoot baskets, ride your bike, or be part of a sports team. You can determine that you will never take illegal drugs or drink alcohol or do other things to damage your body. You honor God when you take care of the body he’s given you.
For You
You have choices to make today. What choices can you make that will help you take care of your body, the temple of the Holy Spirit?
Answer: b
Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
