He Giveth More Grace
He giveth more grace when the burden grows greater;
He sendeth more strength when the labors increase.
To added affliction He addeth His mercy;
To multiplied trials, His multiplied peace.
His love has no limit;
His grace has no measure;
His pow’r has no boundary known unto men.
For out of His infinite riches in Jesus,
He giveth, and giveth, and giveth again!
When we have exhausted our store of endurance,
When our strength has failed ere the day is half done,
When we reach the end of our hoarded resources,
Our Father’s full giving is only begun.
LITTLE IS KNOWN of Annie Flint, but it is clear that she understood both suffering and grace. The apostle Paul understood these things, too. During his life of ministry in service of Christ, Paul was persecuted, imprisoned, beaten, and even stoned. And as if that weren’t enough, he also suffered from an unidentified “thorn in the flesh”—a weakness that he could not overcome.
But amidst all his trials, Paul wrote, “Three different times I begged the Lord to take [the thorn] away. Each time he said, ‘My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.’ So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me” (2 Corinthians 12:8-9).
Paul discovered that God’s grace and power were sufficient to overcome any trial or weakness he might encounter.
Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.
