Just A Closer Walk With Thee
Just a Closer Walk with Thee
I am weak but Thou art strong;
Jesus, keep me from all wrong;
I’ll be satisfied as long
As I walk, let me walk close to Thee.
Just a closer walk with Thee,
Grant it, Jesus, is my plea,
Daily, walking close to Thee,
Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.
Through this world of toil and snares,
If I falter, Lord, who cares?
Who with me my burden shares?
None but Thee, dear Lord, none but Thee.
When my feeble life is o’er,
Time for me will be no more;
Guide me gently, safely o’er
To Thy kingdom shore, to Thy shore.
A FATHER left his son a note that read, “Will be in Far East on your birthday, but back Saturday with gift. What would you like—video game, bike, stereo?” The boy circled the item he wanted—“Saturday.”
The boy could have chosen any plaything he wanted, but most of all he wanted to know his father. That’s the heart of this familiar spiritual. “Just a closer walk with Thee,” that’s all we ask. As Paul said, “Everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord” (Philippians 3:8).
Fortunately, we don’t have an “absentee” heavenly Father. He is there for us and will grant this request. He is happy to walk with us, to share our burdens, to guide us safely to the shore of His kingdom.
Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him.
Psalm 91:1-2
