A Very Special Servant
A VERY SPECIAL SERVANT
Read Romans 6:16-23.
At school, Amber kept thinking about the Scripture Dad had read that morning. It was about being a servant of God. She knew Dad was a servant of God. He was a preacher. Uncle Rob and Aunt Clarice were His servants too. They were missionaries. But how could she, a ten-year-old girl, serve the Lord? Just then she heard Mrs. Powell saying, “Who will stay in during recess and help me with the bulletin board?” Amber had planned to play in the snow with Kim, but she raised her hand. At lunchtime, she helped Emma study her spelling.
When Amber came home from school Mom said, “Oh, I’m so glad you’re here. Amy is running a high fever. I need you to watch the boys while I take her to the doctor’s office.” Amber nodded and entertained her little brothers while Mom was gone. Later she set the table and put a casserole into the oven. After dinner Amber washed the dishes. Then she rocked the baby while her mom put the boys to bed.
After the toys were picked up and all was quiet, Amber asked, “Mom, how can I serve God? Daddy’s a preacher. Uncle Rob and Aunt Clarice are missionaries. You’re the church organist. But what can I do to serve Jesus?”
Mom hugged her daughter. “Oh, Amber, you are serving Him!” she exclaimed. “We serve God by serving others. Every day, as you help me around the house and take care of your little brothers and baby sister, and as you help other people, you’re serving God.”
Amber was amazed. “That’s serving God?”
Mom nodded. “It certainly is. You’re a very special servant of Jesus Christ.”
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Do you want to serve the Lord? Then serve or help others. When you serve them, you’re serving Him. Make up your mind to do something special today for someone else.
TO MEMORIZE:
You have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.
Galatians 5:13
SERVE GOD BY SERVING OTHERS.
