Celebrating Our Friends’ Successes

Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good.

“Are you still planning to come?” my friend Mary asked over text. She’d invited me to the first get-together she was hosting for her new in-home business.

“Of course!” I responded. “I wouldn’t miss it!” I was so excited for my friend and wanted to celebrate her new venture with her.

It’s not the first time I’ve celebrated another’s success. As a small-business owner myself, I know the effort it takes to put yourself out there and try something new. Many of my friends have home or side businesses, and when it fits my schedule and budget, I try to support them as much as I can. I’ve hosted several parties in my home and attended grand openings, graduation parties, and new-home gatherings. Anytime there is something to celebrate, I want to be one of the first to tell my friends how proud I am of them and how I am cheering them on in their lives.

Celebrating another’s successes or even their attempts is one way that we show love to our friends. Whether it’s starting a business, going back to school, starting a new job, or any other change that comes to our lives, it’s important that as friends, we are the first to cheer for one another. There are enough negative opinions in the world, and even thoughts in our own heads, that we often need to balance them out by being the cheering section for those around us. We don’t want to just pretend to love others, we want to really love them, and one way that we do that is by being the first to celebrate our friends’ endeavors. The world around us is competitive enough; let’s be friends who support and love one another well. Who is trying something new around you and could use a little encouragement? Be the first to cheer them on.
