Join the Club

Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.

I’m part of an online group of writers that includes seasoned, published authors as well as those just getting started, some who are finishing books or still in the dreaming phase or anywhere in between. We come together on a social media platform daily to exchange information, ask and answer questions, and share encouragement freely.

It has become a safe place for me to talk about my journey, hopes, and dreams and then listen as others share theirs as well. It’s a place of community built on respect and a common love of story and creativity. And although writing can appear to be an individual profession, I’ve realized through this group that even the most successful writers have teams of people who guide and encourage them.

My online writers’ group is a constant reminder to me that we all need support. We all need people who can encourage us and our dreams. When we are stepping into a new venture, it is good to look around (whether in real life or online) and find others who are pursuing similar goals. Finding others who are walking the same path that we are, who can give and receive information and advice, will keep us going when we’re discouraged or ready to quit.

This truth is affirmed throughout Scripture. We are meant to be there for one another and help each other succeed. And if one person falls, the other can reach out and help. What a beautiful picture of friendship! God designed us to support one another; we weren’t meant to walk through life or pursue our dreams alone. We were meant for community, and I have found that we go a lot farther together than we do all alone.
