Share Your Gifts

In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well.

I met my friend Valerie a few years ago. We were both part of a leadership team for women in our community. I knew immediately that we would be friends. She’s kind, funny, and relatable, but what I love most about her is that she is not afraid to share the hard things that have happened in her life, and she has a passion for teaching others by walking alongside and sharing the challenges she’s faced.

Valerie has a way of talking about difficult things while still offering hope. Her words are always rooted deeply in the Word of God. She knows in whom she believes, and she clings to him even when her own life doesn’t always look like she’d planned or hoped. And because of this, she leads others well by pointing them to Jesus in their own lives and struggles. She is a compassionate teacher with a heart for women to find freedom in Christ regardless of what their lives may look like at the moment. I am so grateful for her willingness to teach. It is a gift from God and a blessing to anyone who hears.

God has given each of us gifts to use to encourage and build up one another. We don’t have to be ashamed of our gifts or make them out to be less than they are. I believe that God wants us to walk in humble confidence in all that he has called us to do. In fact, Scripture tells us that whether our gifts are serving, teaching, or any other thing, we should use them well. Valerie is a wonderful example to me and to other women of someone who walks confidently in the gifting that God has given her, and it is a huge blessing to those around her. Don’t be afraid to share your gifts with those in your community—they need your talents, just as you need theirs.
