Stick Together
Stick Together
A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.
My daughter Jasmine was so excited: she and a few of her friends had been asked to perform a dance for a local event. The girls spent the week leading up to the evening practicing, and the night of, we all showed up early so the girls would have extra time to prepare. As we were running through the dance a final few times, the minutes slipped away from us, and before we knew it, we were close to being late to the performance. We grabbed all of our things and rushed through the hallways toward the event, but as we got close to the auditorium doors, we heard the music start. My heart sank.
“What should we do?!” the girls all exclaimed, wide-eyed.
Everyone looked at each other, concerned and unsure. One mom suggested the girls just go out and start anyway, but still the girls hesitated.
Then Jasmine exclaimed, “I’m going.” She ran out to the floor and began the routine.
The other moms quickly followed suit, giving their girls a quick hug before telling them to go out as well. “Do not leave your friend out there alone!” one mom stated.
We watched as all the girls fell into line and performed the dance beautifully. Once they were finished, the crowd cheered for them, and as they walked off the stage, many congratulated them for having the courage to go out, even after the music had begun.
Although I left that evening proud of my daughter’s quick decision to begin the dance even if no one else did, I most resonated with the encouragement the other moms gave their girls not to let Jasmine perform alone. It’s a good reminder that when we stick together and don’t leave our friends to face life alone, we are all stronger for it.

— Today’s Act of Friendship —
Think of a friend who needs a reminder that they aren’t alone. Say a prayer for them, and then let them know you are there for them.
