Finding Jesus Beautiful

The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact expression of His nature, sustaining all things by His powerful word. After making purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.

EVERY DAY, THE SUN COMES UP AND GOES DOWN. It gives light, energy, and warmth to the earth and makes things grow. The sun is absolutely necessary and incredibly powerful. Without the sun, we wouldn’t be able to survive.

Not only is the sun necessary, but it also provides exceptional beauty. Who hasn’t seen a kaleidoscope of colors decorate the sky as the sun sets below the horizon or as it greets the day by pushing back the darkness of night? Sunrises and sunsets are some of the most beautiful works of art we will ever witness. And this beauty has the power to captivate and mesmerize us.

The book of Hebrews says the same things about Jesus. Jesus is absolutely necessary. He holds everything together. He sustains life on the earth. He provides atonement for sin. He does for us what we can’t do for ourselves. But while many people find Jesus valuable, they fail to see Him as beautiful.

As Hebrews also says, Jesus is the radiance of God’s glory. He is matchless. He is magnificent. He has power over us. He has the power to change us and make us more like Him. We “are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory” (2 Corinthians 3:18, HCSB). Our faith revolves around Him.

BOTTOM LINE

May God give you the eyes to not only find Jesus valuable, but also to find Him beautiful. And may God shape you into the beauty that you see in Him.
