Sharp As A Razor’s Edge

Using a dull ax requires great strength, so sharpen the blade.

Ecclesiastes 10:10

AN AX HAS TO BE SHARPENED often if its user is to experience its maximum utility. Whatever your occupation or hobby or interests, you know that your tools have to be maintained to get the best results. A knife must be sharpened, and a gun must be cleaned. A uniform must be laundered. A motor must have oil, and a baseball glove must be oiled. Computer software has to be updated.

Whatever you’re doing, the tools you’re using have to be kept in prime condition if you expect to achieve the best results for the task at hand.

When it comes to a vibrant, effective Christian faith, it’s also imperative that your “tools” be sharp, always ready for whatever situation you face. If you want your faith to be strong, regularly sharpen the tools that make it possible. Some of those tools are study, prayer, fellowship, serving, and worship.

Spend time reading the Bible, participate with an accountability partner or a small group of men you trust, find ways to serve others selflessly (through your church or community groups), and never forget the critical role of worship in maintaining a strong faith. When, by the grace of God, you keep your faith tools sharp, you’re well on your way to becoming a master faith builder. But if you don’t, you may find your faith becoming less and less enjoyable and less and less effective. Build your faith to last.
