Wearing God’s Armor

Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.

Ephesians 6:13

EVERY CHRISTIAN IS a soldier in an all-out war against Satan. Scripture commands us to take up the full armor of God. Leave no place unguarded. The enemy prowls around like a roaring lion (1 Peter 5:8), seeking to kill your joy and neutralize your testimony. Be alert; the enemy will exploit any opening you give him.

A Christian in complete armor is invincible. We can resist the devil. We can take our stand against the darkness of deception. In our own strength, we may be weary, weak, and worn. But what matters is the armor of God and our faith to wear it.

The apostle Paul identifies six pieces of armor: the belt of truth; the breastplate of righteousness; the boots of the gospel of peace; the shield of faith; the helmet of salvation; and the sword of the Spirit, God’s Word. He wraps up this inventory by reminding us to be persistent in our prayers for one another (Ephesians 6:18).

If you’re looking for instructions on how to use the armor, you will be disappointed. Scripture is not about methods and techniques; it is about Jesus. He is your truth, your righteousness, your shield, your peace, and your salvation. God tells you to “put on the shining armor of right living” and to “clothe yourself with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 13:12, 14). The open secret of effectively wearing God’s armor is a maturing walk with Christ. When we abide in Him, we’re able to fight off the attacks of the enemy.

BOTTOM LINE

Spiritual warfare is Christ-dependent. He has given us what we need, and He is with us by His Spirit. Walk confidently in His truth and power.
