Can You Keep A Secret?
Read Proverbs 11
A gossip goes around telling secrets, but those who are trustworthy can keep a confidence.
Proverbs 11:13
Many think of it only as a tongue twister, but its meaning rings true: Loose lips sink ships. Whether the ship represents a relationship, a reputation, a career, a person’s faith, or the trust within a community, gossip and rumors can lead to disaster. What can seem harmless and fun eventually can cause disaster. Gossiping becomes a habit that needs to be stopped.
Even Christians can fall into the habit of gossip, often under the pretense of “sharing” or informing others “just so you can know how to pray for the poor dear.” But today’s proverb labels it for what it is: breaking a trust. If keeping a secret is hard for us, we can be assured that God is more than able to help us end this habit. It is that important to him. If we abide by the Golden Rule (would we want our secrets revealed?), pray for the person, and ask God for strength, he will see us through to be people of integrity who have better uses for communication than breaking a confidence.

Gossip is a form of treachery.
Today, Lord, help me to be a person of integrity. Show me how to avoid gossiping.
