Speech Control - The One Year Daily Wisdom
Speech Control
Read Proverbs 13
Those who control their tongue will have a long life; opening your mouth can ruin everything.
Proverbs 13:3
In the New Testament, James wrote, “The tongue is a flame of fire. It is a whole world of wickedness, corrupting your entire body. It can set your whole life on fire” (James 3:6).
How true are these words! Who has not spoken words in a fit of anger, only to regret them immediately? The tongue can run away with us sometimes, and we say things that are better left unsaid. And once those words have escaped our lips, there is no way to get them back. They can indeed “ruin everything” —or at least cause devastating damage that may take many years to repair.
How much better for us to control our tongue, to think before we speak, to measure our words carefully. Then we will say what we mean in the best way possible. We will be clear, concise, and concerned for the welfare of the listener. And we will show self-control, for we will be in control of our tongue.
A WORD FOR TODAY
Longevity is tied to lingual control.
Today, Lord, may I think before I speak, learning from your Holy Spirit the self-control I need in order to control my tongue.
