Weather Can Wreak Havoc

WEATHER CAN WREAK HAVOC on snowboarding competitions. Resorts, after all, choose their location based on large snowfalls. Yet a huge storm snuffed out the women’s snowboard slopestyle finals at the 2003 X Games in Aspen, Colorado.

The day started out nice enough, but shortly into the first of two runs, gigantic snowflakes began falling from the sky. Soon the course turned to mush. The women were able to complete their first runs, but two inches of snow and zero visibility caused officials to cancel the second run.

With only one score deciding the last event at the X Games, Janna Meyen took home the gold. The 2002 silver medalist climbed to first by stomping a backside 360 with an indy grab. Then Meyen nailed a backside 360 off the big ramp to tally 92 points. Hana Beaman benefited by going early in the competition, and her lean grab frontside 360 followed by a backside 360 proved to be good enough for 87.33 points and second place. Lindsey Jacobellis went big over the transfer gap and landed a backside 360 to take home the bronze. Although these women were happy with their medal and big prize money, they all felt bad for winning under the circumstances.

POINT Snowboarding relies on mass quantities of snow. Duh, right? But the snowstorm in Aspen interfered with the women’s slopestyle finals at the 2003 X Games.

While that snowstorm proved to be a downer as it blanketed the mountain and made competing impossible, most people love the look of new-fallen snow. Everything appears calm, peaceful, and beautiful after a big snowstorm. The Bible says that God makes our life as clean as new snow. Can you imagine anything more pure? That’s the miracle of Jesus. He takes our red-stained, sinful life and makes it clean and beautiful.

GOAL! Some people feel their life is too stained with sin for God to clean. But no mistake is so bad that God can’t fix it. Praise God for his cleansing powers.
