Chem-tone And A Roller
Chem-Tone and a Roller
I am trusting you, O LORD,saying, “You are my God!”My future is in your hands.
Psalm 31:14-15
Every day I get up, get dressed, do my hair, and put on my makeup whether I feel like it or not. Why do I do those things even when I don’t feel like it? Because Frances did.
My husband and I lived in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he was a personal evangelist. In the church was an amazing older lady named Frances. She was funny, sweet, and altogether delightful. I admired her so much for her wonderful attitude, no matter what might have been going on in her life.
Believe it or not, during her lifetime Frances had already been through forty-three surgeries. And there she was, facing major surgery again. The week before, she was really frightened—not of the surgical procedure but of the terrifying hallucinations she experienced under anesthetic. Still, she stuck out her chin, smiled brightly through eyes brimming with tears, and said, “Now, don’t you worry, honey; old Frances will be just fine. Always have, and there’s no reason to think the Lord will let me down this time. I trust him.”
The next day we went to see Frances, expecting to find a pale, languishing, older woman in a white hospital gown and sound asleep. We were happily shocked to find Frances sitting up in bed laughing and talking, in a beautiful pink bed jacket, with her hair combed and her makeup done to perfection.
“Well, look who’s here!” she exclaimed when she saw us. “Come here and give Frances a big hug.”
“Frances, how wonderful you look!” I said, hugging her carefully. “How do you do it the day after surgery?”
“Oh, honey,” she said as she laughed, “I just use Chem-Tone semigloss and a roller. It goes on a lot thicker and faster, and it covers a multitude of sins!”
Every day I get dressed and do my hair and makeup. Why do I do it even when I don’t feel like it? I figure, if Frances could do it, I can do it.
Father, thank you for taking care of us in our most difficult moments. Help us to trust you more with the problems and struggles of our lives, because we know only you can really handle them. Amen.
