God Moves in a Mysterious Way

Job 11:7

Some time ago I lost enough weight that my clothes did not fit anymore. So I cleaned out my dresser, taking a bag of like-new pajamas and bras to an organization that serves abused women and children. A few days later the following e-mail was forwarded to me from the woman who had received my castoffs:

I picked the clothes up tonight. I don’t know how to say this, but pajamas and more than two bras for me have been out of the question, because they were not necessities. I am beside myself with appreciation for the person who donated the bras and pajamas.

You know . . . the girls came home from their dad’s and have been adjusting to being back home with me and to my rules. I realize God can use all situations to minister, and I saw that firsthand tonight. I had been praying he would give me an opportunity to be a mom and have some girl time with my daughters. I never dreamed a bag of bras would do it.

Jennifer had been very guarded and closed . . . until today. She asked if we could go to church tonight, even though she has not wanted to do anything with me. Then, after church, the girls ripped into the bag of clothes. After finding the treasure inside, they burst out laughing and had a bra fight in the car.

They said, “It’s raining bras!”

It was priceless. They talked nonstop all the way home about a lot of normal stuff. I never thought God would use bras as an icebreaker. I am grateful to be so blessed.

Hymnist William Cowper so eloquently wrote, “God moves in a mysterious way, his wonders to perform.” But who would have thought God would use bras and pj’s?

Father, thank you for allowing my castoffs to become someone else’s treasure and to open the door for a mother and her daughters to reconnect. You are amazing! Amen.
