On My Way!
On My Way!
Who can find a virtuous and capable wife? She is more precious than rubies.
Proverbs 31:10
Afamily was watching TV when Mom said, “I’m tired, and it’s getting late. I think I’ll go to bed.”
She went to the kitchen to make sandwiches for the next day’s lunches, rinsed out the popcorn bowls, took meat out of the freezer to thaw, checked the levels of the cereal boxes, filled the sugar container, put spoons and bowls on the table, and programmed the coffeemaker for brewing the next morning.
Next she transferred some wet clothes from the washer to the dryer, put another load into the washer, ironed a shirt, and secured a loose button.
She picked up the newspapers strewn on the floor, gathered the game pieces left on the table, and put the telephone book back into the drawer.
She watered the plants, emptied a wastebasket, and hung up a towel to dry.
She yawned and stretched and headed for the bedroom. She picked up two pairs of shoes in the hall and put them in the closet. Then she stopped by the desk and wrote a note to the teacher, counted out some cash for a field trip, and pulled a textbook out from under the chair. She signed a birthday card for a friend, addressed and stamped the envelope, and wrote a quick list for the grocery store. She put both near her purse on the table by the front door.
Mom then creamed her face, brushed and flossed her teeth, and trimmed her nails.
About that time, Dad called, “I thought you were going to bed.”
“I’m on my way!” she said.
O Lord, we are on our way to you. Sometimes the path seems long and fraught with endless “detours.” Please help us to stay focused on you as we take care of the myriad details and tasks that make up our lives. We love you, Lord. Amen.
