Surprise!
Surprise!
Those who worship the Lord on a special day do it to honor him. . . . [Whatever we do,] it’s to honor the Lord.
Romans 14:6, 8
Over breakfast one morning, Jenny said to her husband, Rhett, “I’ll bet you don’t know what day this is.”
“Of course I do,” Rhett answered, as if he were offended.
“Really? Okay, so what day is it?” she teased.
Thinking he had forgotten some important date, such as their anniversary or Jenny’s birthday, Rhett scrambled around and said, “Well, if you don’t know, I’m certainly not going to tell you.” And he left for work.
Jenny grinned as he left, knowing full well that he had no idea what special day it really was.
About ten thirty in the morning, the doorbell rang, and when Jenny opened the door, she was handed a box containing a dozen long-stemmed red roses.
Early in the afternoon, a foil-wrapped, two-pound box of Jenny’s favorite chocolates arrived.
Later, a boutique delivered a designer dress in just the right size and color for Jenny, along with a card inviting her to dinner at the restaurant where Jenny and Rhett had become engaged.
Jenny could hardly wait for Rhett to come home from work. When he did, she ran into his arms with a huge smile.
“Honey, first the flowers, then the chocolates, and then the dress and dinner invitation!” she exclaimed. “Wow! I’ve never had a more wonderful Groundhog Day in my life!”
Father, thank you for the laughter and surprises you place in my days. Please help me to share that joy with others today. Amen.
