Being What You’re Made To Be - The One Year Devotions for Men on the Go
Being What You’re Made to Be
Read Acts 13:26-37
After David had served his generation according to the will of God, he died and was buried, and his body decayed. Acts 13:36
Who are you? I mean, who are you really? Everybody in your life probably has an opinion of who you ought to be, and they are only too eager to tell you their opinions. If you are the typical man, you have probably spent the majority of your life trying to be the person you think you are supposed to be just so you can compete in this world—and you silently resent having to do so.
Have you ever stopped to ask, “Who has God made me to be?” God knew exactly what he was doing when he made you and gave you the desires that are in your heart. But if you are like many men, you fumble around with the expectations others have put on you rather than courageously discovering who God has made you to be.
Think about the variety of ways God has made men. Moses was an impatient, soft-spoken man of miracles. David was an athletic champion who could write songs after winning battles. Jonathan was a loyal friend who was willing to give up his own success for God’s bigger plan. John the Baptist was an unconventional street preacher. The apostle Paul was an uncompromising achiever, while his close friend Barnabas was a personal encourager of other men.
Some of God’s great men look very successful, and some of them seem very unassuming. Others appear to have failed in their pursuits. But what they have in common is that they aggressively pursued what God put on their hearts to do with their lives.
Who do you think God has made you to be? Does that match the expectations of others? If not, whose expectations will you choose?
Dear God, thank you for making me the way I am. Thank you for giving me the desires I have. Show me how to live the way you have made me.
