Delegation
Delegation
What is good about sharing responsibility?
God’s Response
You’re going to wear yourself out—and the people, too. This job is too heavy a burden for you to handle all by yourself. Exodus 18:18
He called his twelve disciples together and sent them out two by two. Mark 6:7
Moses was an enormously gifted leader who fell into the trap of believing he had to do it all by himself. It is possible to be too responsible. When you stretch yourself too thin you put yourself and others at risk. You can wear yourself out, make others wait, prevent those with gifts from having the opportunity to use them, and keep them from growing spiritually through serving others. In the process, God’s people become dissatisfied and distracted and God’s work is delayed. Jethro’s advice to Moses in the book of Exodus has been God’s strategy from the beginning: delegation and discipleship.
God’s Challenge
Go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. Matthew 28:19-20
