Is it possible to have close male friendships?
God’s Response
After David had finished talking with Saul, he met Jonathan, the king’s son. There was an immediate bond of love between them, and they became the best of friends. And Jonathan made a special vow to be David’s friend, and he sealed the pact by giving him his robe, tunic, sword, bow, and belt. 1 Samuel 18:1, 3-4
It is possible to have close friendships with other men—in fact, it is vital. Men have issues and struggles that women may have a hard time understanding (and vice versa). It is important to know other men who understand these issues and feel comfortable enough to talk about them with you. If you are having trouble knowing where to find close friendships with other men, try looking for a men’s accountability group or a Bible study in a local church.
God’s Promise
As iron sharpens iron, a friend sharpens a friend. Proverbs 27:17
