How do my thoughts affect my actions?

God’s Response

You have heard that the law of Moses says, “Do not commit adultery.” But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust in his eye has already committed adultery with her in his heart. Matthew 5:27-28

Your eye is a lamp for your body. A pure eye lets sunshine into your soul. But an evil eye shuts out the light and plunges you into darkness. If the light you think you have is really darkness, how deep that darkness will be! Matthew 6:22-23

From the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, all other sexual immorality, theft, lying, and slander. Matthew 15:19

The heart is like a computer chip that runs your life. It is the center of your passions, desires, and beliefs. From your heart come your thoughts and actions. Since all people are born with a sinful nature (Romans 3:23), the heart is naturally corrupt. Therefore, to replace your sinful nature with God’s new nature, you must be deliberate about forcing out anything that takes the place of God and consistently tempts you. God cannot occupy your heart and redeem it if someone or something else already lives there that you are more passionate about. Is God affecting your thoughts and actions, or are you allowing something else to control you?
