What is worship, and why is it important?

God’s Response

We adore you as the one who is over all things. Riches and honor come from you alone, for you rule over everything. Power and might are in your hand. . . . O our God, we thank you and praise your glorious name! 1 Chronicles 29:11-13

You are my King and my God. You command victories for your people. Only by your power can we push back our enemies. Psalm 44:4-5

Human beings in every time and culture have demonstrated a need and desire to worship someone more powerful than themselves. In the Bible, worship means recognizing the power and authority of God and offering praise, gifts, and obedience in response. The most important question of human existence is, Who or what do you worship? for that determines your beliefs, values, and behavior. Do you give your allegiance and obedience to any “lesser gods,” such as money, status, or people? The Bible teaches that only one God is truly worthy of our worship, for he alone is holy and sovereign, possessing the authority to judge all things.

God’s Promise

Who will not fear, O Lord, and glorify your name? For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship before you, for your righteous deeds have been revealed. Revelation 15:4
