What does it mean to be holy and to live a holy life?

God’s Response

We are writing . . . you who have been called by God to be his own holy people. He made you holy by means of Christ Jesus, just as he did all Christians everywhere. 1 Corinthians 1:2

Your sins have been washed away, and you have been set apart for God. 1 Corinthians 6:11

I plead with you to give your bodies to God. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice —the kind he will accept. Romans 12:1

Think of holiness as both a journey and a final destination. To be completely holy is to be sinless, pure, and perfect before God. Of course, none of us is perfect, so that is our ultimate goal, our final destination when we stand before God in heaven. But holiness also means to be different, to be “set apart” by God for a specific purpose. We are to be different from the rest of the world, and our lives are a journey toward becoming a little bit more pure and sinless with each passing day. If you strive to be holy during your earthly journey, you will one day arrive at your final destination to stand holy before God.
