Prayer
What is prayer?
God’s Response
I confess my sins; I am deeply sorry for what I have done. Psalm 38:18
The priest said, “Let’s ask God first.” 1 Samuel 14:36
I will thank you, LORD, with all my heart. . . . I will sing praises to your name, O Most High. Psalm 9:1-2
The next morning Jesus awoke long before daybreak and went out alone into the wilderness to pray. Mark 1:35
Prayer is talking to God and building a relationship with him. As you talk to him, you praise and thank him, make requests, confess sins, express pain and frustration, and simply share what is happening in your life. Good conversation also includes listening, so make time for God to speak to you. When you listen to God, he can make his wisdom and resources available to you. Prayer can also soften your heart and help you to avoid the debilitating effects of anger, resentment, and bitterness.
God’s Promise
The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right, and his ears are open to their prayers. 1 Peter 3:12
