What does the Cross represent?

God’s Response

You know that God paid a ransom to save you. . . . He paid for you with the precious lifeblood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God. 1 Peter 1:18-19

We know what real love is because Christ gave up his life for us. 1 John 3:16

In Old Testament days, when a person brought an animal to the altar to be sacrificed, it symbolized the transfer of their sin to the animal. This allowed the person to be pure and holy before God again. In the New Testament, the cross is the altar and Jesus is the sacrifice. When he died on the cross, he transferred the sins of all people onto himself, forever. Jesus did this for you because he loves you. All you must do now is admit your sin to God and accept his forgiveness.

God’s Promise

Now he has brought you back as his friends. He has done this through his death on the cross in his own human body. As a result, he has brought you into the very presence of God, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault. Colossians 1:22
