Words

Words

When I speak to God and to others, do my words really matter?

God’s Response

If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are just fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless. James 1:26

A gentle answer turns away wrath, but harsh words stir up anger. Proverbs 15:1

What comes out of your mouth shows what is in your heart. Your words show what kind of person you really are. Criticism, gossip, flattery, lying, and profanity are not only “word problems,” but “heart problems” as well. Being more careful with your words isn’t enough. You must first have a change of heart, and then good, kind, and healing words will follow.

God’s Promise

Who may worship in your sanctuary, LORD? Who may enter your presence on your holy hill? Those who lead blameless lives and do what is right, speaking the truth from sincere hearts. Those who refuse to slander others or harm their neighbors or speak evil of their friends. Psalm 15:1-3
