Prayers for More

Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us . . . Ephesians 3:20, ESV

PERHAPS IT SEEMS ARROGANT to want to be filled with God’s fullness—to move in divine wisdom, perfect love, and explosive power. From a certain perspective, this kind of praying might come across as a desire to impress, to have status, to be a superhero of faith. It just seems so . . . unrealistic.

Yet this is our calling, and it’s expressed beautifully in the apostolic prayers of the New Testament. If we are to make any lasting difference in this world, what better way than to become a vessel of God’s wisdom, power, and love? What greater position could we possibly be in than to pray in the name of a perfect Savior for the perfect gifts his Father has promised? And to pray not only for ourselves but for those around us—to see the work he has done for us and ask him to multiply it in us and through us—is at the heart of our mission. It’s objective number one in the mission to advance his Kingdom on earth.

The prayers of the last few days have put us on a path toward overflowing with God’s wisdom, being filled with his measureless love, and walking in his extraordinary power. As those attributes grow in our lives, we have everything we need to pray incisively according to God’s purposes, be motivated by his heart, and see him respond to the faith within us. This divine life may seem distant at times, but God is able to do well beyond what we can ask or imagine—and we can imagine quite a lot. How does he do this? Through the power that works within us—the power of the Resurrection, the divine energy source, the radiance of glory implanted in everyone who believes. This is the atmosphere God has called us to walk in, and it’s available by faith through his promises. It’s also the center of his will for our families, churches, workplaces, schools, communities, cities, nations, and other arenas of his Kingdom. Pray in this power, this will, this abundance. You and your world will be blessed by the fullness of God.

Your Christian life is to be a continuous proof that God works impossibilities.
