Nourished By Obedience - The One Year Praying the Promises of God
Nourished by Obedience
Jesus explained, “My nourishment comes from doing the will of God, who sent me, and from finishing his work.”
John 4:34
Jesus had been traveling and was tired and hungry when he came to a stopping place beside a well in Samaria. The disciples had gone into the village to buy food. When they returned, he was busy ministering to the people streaming from the village because of the testimony of a woman whose life he had transformed.
What had reenergized Jesus? Doing what God had sent him to do.
Following the will of God in your life is invigorating. Of course you need nourishment and rest for your physical body, but it is amazing how physical energy flows from a supernatural wellspring when we are doing what God has called us to do.
My first ministry event after my husband’s death was only six weeks after he had died. I was a bona fide emotional mess. I couldn’t focus, couldn’t talk without crying, melted down at the slightest thing. I couldn’t imagine how I would manage, but I felt strongly that the Lord had told me to be about my Father’s business. Grieving didn’t stop. I carried it with me wherever I went. Until the minute I stepped onto the stage to speak, I was a wreck in every way.
But when my foot hit the platform, peace descended on me. I felt the change physically in what I can describe only as power holding me up. I was me again. I spoke the message just as I always had. As soon as I walked down off the platform, I was a messy puddle of emotions. But I had learned that no matter what, God’s anointing will meet me when I step into the call of God on my life.
That dramatic moment is burned into my innermost being. From that lesson, I know as never before that obedience is met with empowerment at the instant it is needed.
Thank you for the strength that comes with the command to obey.
There’s some task which the God of all the universe, the great Creator, your redeemer in Jesus Christ has for you to do, and which will remain undone and incomplete until by faith and obedience you step into the will of God.
