What do you get when you combine 150 school-aged children and thousands of LEGOs? Well, if you add a pastor and an architect, you might get the world’s largest LEGO model of Noah’s Ark. At least that’s what happened when all these ingredients combined during a 2009 summer camp at Harvest Bible Chapel in Elgin, Illinois.

More than 150 kids helped build a replica of Noah’s Ark that was a 1:37 scale of the original. That means for every foot of the LEGO ark, Noah’s boat was 37 times bigger! In the end, the kids built a LEGO model that was 12 feet long, two feet high, and three feet wide. Based on computerized architectural plans, LEGO shipped the blocks to Harvest Bible Chapel from its headquarters in Denmark. The record-breaking boat was the biggest LEGO Noah’s Ark ever created based on its size and the number of bricks used.

What’s the Score?

Everybody seems to know the story of Noah. Even kids who have never set foot in a church know that Noah built a huge boat to save the world’s animals during a great flood. You might even think the story is a little childish. But we can learn a lot from Noah—and not just about boat building or how to care for thousands of animals in a confined space.

Noah stood up for his beliefs. People mocked him for building a gigantic boat in the middle of nowhere. But Noah didn’t listen to them; he listened to God. God told him to build the ark, so that’s what he did. The Bible notes that Noah was a righteous man who “walked in close fellowship with God” (Genesis 6:9). Wouldn’t you want to be described as “righteous” and “in close fellowship with God”? By listening to God and following his commands, you can be.
