Hairdos And Hairdoozies
Hairdos and Hairdoozies
The very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.
Luke 12:7
I’m so grateful this very personal verse was planted in my heart at a young age, especially since I’ve been self-conscious about my hair for most of my life.
When I go to the hairdresser, I am afraid of what I’ll look like when I come out of that swivel chair! Don’t get me wrong. It’s not that I don’t have confidence in the skills of my hairdresser; it’s just that I don’t “talk” hair very well. For years, I have collected cute-hair pictures from magazines and catalogs so I can show the hairdresser a picture. At the insistence of a tasteful friend, my cluttered collection has turned into a small, one-of-a-kind book I call Hairdos and Hairdoozies! The hairdos are magazine pictures I like. The hairdoozies are the actual, awful photographs of me with bad hair. Now ladies, my little handmade book will never make it onto the bestsellers list because I have the only copy, but friends have actually borrowed it when they are thinking of changing up their hairstyles because it is helpful.
As useful as this book is, the most helpful book in my life is the Bible, God’s Word. I meditated on this very verse when I lost every hair on my head through chemotherapy. How precious that God knows the number of hairs on my head since He knows the exact number of hairs that were falling out in clumps. That truth brought me great comfort and helped alleviate my fear. God has me covered! It doesn’t get any better than that!
The next time you go to the hairdresser, repeat today’s verse to yourself or—even better yet—share it with your stylist. Praise God that He created you and knows every detail about you.
