Peter, Paul, And Mary - The One Year Sweet and Simple Moments with God Devotional

Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see. Through their faith, the people in days of old earned a good reputation.

Hebrews 11:1-2

Peter, Paul, and Mary wannabes? Yes! Even though these three faithful people of God were not actually listed by name in the Hebrews 11 Hall of Faith, they sure have earned a good reputation with me (and I’m not referring to the sixties folk trio). The Bible’s Peter, Paul, and Mary loved Jesus, and the more I read about each of them, the more I love how they personally demonstrated that love.

In 2 Peter 1:1, Peter calls himself a slave of Jesus Christ. I want to be that too. And Paul? His example of rejoicing and singing in prison and defending his faith inspires me (Acts 16:25; Acts 22–26). What an incredible passion he had for Jesus, his Savior and Lord. Finally there was Mary, the sister of Martha and Lazarus, who always chose the better way, which was spending time with Jesus (Luke 10:42). I want to be like Mary and prioritize my time with Jesus too.

Above all, I love Jesus, and I suspect you do too. We can’t help but fall in love with Him as we discover more about Him and what He did for us. From the beginning to the end of the Bible—Genesis to Revelation—we get to know Jesus and how He relates to His people through individuals like Peter, Paul, and Mary. Reading about the heroes of faith who gave up everything for Christ—without any regrets—provides inspiration and courage to me to love Him just as fervently and to stay close to Him always through what He has to say.
