What Is A Sweet Monday?
What Is a Sweet Monday?
That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.”
1 Corinthians 2:9
Nineteen years ago, I was a young mother busy with our daughter, Kali, at home while my husband, Mark, was at his job at school. At times, I felt isolated and lonely for the company of other women. I knew I couldn’t be the only woman feeling this way . . . and I knew Jesus! So I decided that with God’s help, I would open our home the first Monday night of the month for an hour and a half to any woman who would come—neighbors, church friends, acquaintances, women of all ages and stages of life. Since our household income had been significantly reduced when I stopped teaching, I called the get-together “Sweet Monday, Women’s Socials on a Shoestring . . . Tied to a Generous God.” I served a simple dessert (full of fat and sugar), decaf coffee, and candy to go along with the theme. Because God promises that His Word never returns void (Isaiah 55:11, KJV), I shared a five-minute gospel message to point us all to Christ as the one and only lasting Sweetener of life!
The night before that first Sweet Monday, I dreamed that I was sitting on the front porch in a rocking chair, waiting and waiting for someone to come. Not one woman showed up! It was a terrible dream, but thankfully it wasn’t what actually happened. The next night the room was crowded, and new women continue to come to this day.
What about you? We can all have a Sweet Monday any day of the week by reaching out to another woman for Christ, one sweet invitation at a time! If we who have Christ living inside us aren’t connecting other women to Him, who will? Let’s invite women into our lives, into our homes, and into our churches by faith!
Extend an invitation to a woman this week for coffee or tea. It may lead to a regular Bible study or Sweet Monday in your home. But start with allowing the Holy Spirit to encourage her through His life in you.
