A Prayer For A Sibling Preparing For A New Baby

O God, as we prepare

To bring a new life into this world,

We acknowledge that this beginning

Marks the end of a chapter

In our family.

So we take this time

To thank You

For the memories we have shared.

And, too, Lord,

We look ahead with anticipation

For the memories waiting to be made.

We pray for sibling bonds

To be formed through Your love

That knits stories together.

As [child’s name] becomes a new [brother/sister],

We pray they will know deep in their soul

That a parent’s love multiplies

And never subtracts.

As we expect a new baby,

We ask for new ways to make our family as it is now

Feel seen and known and treasured.

As nurseries are painted,

We pray You would make room

In the hearts of our children.

Will You whisper a sense of wonder,

Of joy and anticipation?

Thank You for the gift of family,

Of time that slips away

Until we’re forced to reckon

With its passing beneath our feet.
