A Prayer For Infertility - To Light Their Way

A Prayer for Infertility

O God who sees

All that we cannot see,

We come to You

With the ache and yearning

To be a parent.

Lord, we have prayed,

And we wonder if You hear us

Calling out to You.

For still, the nursery is empty,

And our hearts feel poured out

And left forgotten.

We walk this road

Littered with tests

And doctor’s appointments

And dashed dreams,

And we wonder if You are

Truly with us in the waiting.

As we’ve taken paths

We never thought we’d walk,

We pray for permission for our weary bodies

And souls

To rest

When we’re not sure we can take another detour.

O God, You have not forgotten us.

Help us know that our unmet hopes

Have not been divine punishments,

And remind us

Again and again and again

You are with us in the unknown.

Help us trust Your ways,

Even when Your ways

Look different from ours.

Help us as we discern next steps.

Guide us when we’re not sure where to go.

Lead us when it feels like

Our compass is spinning in all directions.

Carry us through disappointments.

Give us community that loves and supports.

Help us lean into those who love us;

Help us trust that You are there.

We pray that Your mercies

Really would be new each morning

And that we would have strength to face each new day.

You know the ache of our hearts,

And You are not blind to the emotions we feel.

As we receive yet another baby shower invitation

Or see another announcement online,

Give us grace to love through the pain,

And grant us rest when we need to protect our hearts.

Give us words to put to our hurt.

Give us loved ones who will hear them,

Receiving pieces of our hearts and holding them with care,

With no rush to put a bow on our pain,

For infertility has felt like anything but a gift.

Help us see Your goodness around us.

Whisper hope into the corners of our hearts,

The tucked-away spaces

No one else ever sees.

You are the God who sees,

And we ask that You would make a way

For our family to grow.

Help us to believe that You are still good

And You are still with us

On this unexpected journey.

You call us Your children,

Your beloved daughters and sons.

Help us stand in that identity

No matter what.
