A Prayer For When A Child Shares Good News

A Prayer for When a Child Shares Good News

God of joy, thank You

For this child and the bounce in their step

And the pride in their eyes

As they recount good news from their day.

Help us remember the unfettered joy of youth

And the happiness that comes

In rejoicing together.

Thank You for the victories,

Big and small,

For the celebrations

Of a fear conquered

Or a friend made.

Thank You for good gifts

Of high-fives and fist bumps,

Of laughter and squeals of joy.

For we are an Easter people,

Eager to celebrate.

Help us never to be so lost

In our own realities that we are too busy

To enter into the joys of childhood.

May our children know just how worthy

They are of praise,

And may they never feel too self-conscious

To invite others into their good news.

O God who turns water into wine,

We know You are a God of celebration,

And we thank You for the gift

Of celebrating with our children.

For though their big news is their own,

The gift of parenthood is an open door

Into a shared celebration.

Thank You, Giver of good gifts.

Help this child see Your glory,

Your goodness, and Your love

In this moment—and give them also

A heart for those who may be hurting right now.

As we celebrate,

Stoke the fires of compassion and empathy.

Remind us that laughter is

A holy resistance to the suffering of the world.

Thank You for the special ways

You have created our children.

Help them see You in each celebration

And in every time of sorrow.

Give us eyes to see the good

And hearts eager to celebrate.

Let us always invite more to the table.

Let us cultivate confident hearts and courageous souls.

Let us celebrate!

May we never be too distracted

To celebrate with our children

For earning a high mark,

For accomplishing a big task,

For creating a piece of art,

For trying something new.

We know behind every victory

Are a million unseen pieces

Coming together in this moment.

Thank You for our children.

In a world that seems covered in heartbreak,

These little ones remind us to celebrate.

Thank You for their tender hearts

And the delight they cultivate

With their joyful spirits.

Create a celebratory spirit in us, O Lord.

Give us space in the day

And in our hearts

And in our minds

To rejoice!

To dance!

To let the heaviness of the world rest.

Your burden is light,

And we rest in the celebrations,

Big and small.

Let us learn from the uninhibited joy of children.

In their exuberance, may we see ourselves.

May we speak life into our little ones

So that they may know their worth

And be able to call out the good in others.

May they never feel like their productivity

Determines their worth,

And may they always know they are worth celebrating

Simply because they are.

We know that victories vary

From child to child,

From season to season.

We ask for eyes to see them

And hearts eager to lift them up

And spin them around until we’re dizzy

With glad hearts and joyful spirits.

Thank You for this gift of parenthood.

May we remember Your abundant goodness

And shout joyfully of Your righteousness.

May this help us remember

The good news of Jesus Christ,

The good news always worth celebrating.
