Who Holds It All Together
Who Holds It All Together
Who has the wisdom to count the clouds? Who can tip over the water jars of the heavens?
ARE JARED AND I THE ONLY PARENTS who have large plastic bins that hold all the random LEGO pieces from sets that have either fallen apart or been taken apart to make room for new creations? Sometimes these bins get pushed to the back of the closet, and sometimes they are just shoved under the bed. But each one represents hours and hours of playtime, learning, and building time.
The fact is, I am a terrible LEGO builder. For some reason I can’t seem to follow the very clear directions, complete with pictures, that come in every box. But my oldest son is amazing at it. When he was five, he built the LEGO version of the Millennium Falcon from Star Wars all by himself. We still marvel at his accomplishment because the set was meant for much older children to assemble.
Even though I am not great at making these creations, I have learned something important: In any build, there are key pieces that hold the whole thing together. They are the linchpins of the entire project. Without them, the entire design will fall apart. Sometimes the project can’t even be completed unless those bricks are in place.
Many times we moms feel like those linchpin pieces. It seems that without us, the whole structure would just collapse. We are the only ones who can hold it all together and make it all work correctly. Momma, while you are the guiding force that builds and sustains the rhythm of your household, tonight we offer this simple reminder: The Lord is truly the One who holds everything together.
The book of Job in Scripture describes a man who was terribly afflicted with many trials. In Job 38, the Lord spoke to him out of the whirlwind. All throughout the chapter God reminded Job of His power in creation. “Who has the wisdom to count the clouds? Who can tip over the water jars of the heavens?” In other words, who knows how many clouds there are in the sky, and who can make it rain? The entire chapter showcases the majesty and power of our Creator. Tonight let’s lean into the fact that He is the One who upholds all things. Let’s trust Him to bring peace and joy to our everyday lives.
You may feel like it’s all been up to you, but He has His arms around you and your children. He is able to sustain everything with His powerful Word.
Tonight we pray for the momma who holds it all together for everyone. Lord, when everyone seems to need her to figure it out or manage the chaos, she does her best. She just keeps going and trying her hardest. She loves her family fiercely, but she is tired. She needs to know that You hold her and her family. Please give her peace and help her rest as she trusts in You.
We ask in Jesus’s name, amen.
Father, let me rest in the knowledge that You hold me up as I try to hold together . . .
