Who Is Going Through A Transition

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.

TRANSITIONS CAN BE HARD. The change from what we have known to the unknown can be really upsetting to our minds and our emotions. Even if it is a transition that is expected and hoped for, the actual event can be quite difficult because there are so many adjustments.

After spending months helping plan Becky’s beautiful wedding, it struck me that she would not be coming home afterward like she had during her college days. The transition to empty nester made me very sad even though I already loved her new husband like a son.

The truth is, transitions—even those that come from the very happiest of circumstances—can still be hard or heavy.

Momma, the Bible tells us that “there is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” This means that there is a time for our transitions!

The Old Testament was written by Hebrew authors. Their thoughts about time were much different from our Western ideas. We think of time as linear—we go from point A to point B, and the goal is always to move forward.

But the Hebrews’ view of time was circular. The cycle of the earth going around the sun and the moon going around the earth are great examples of seasonal thinking. Why is this helpful information? Because thinking like people in the Old Testament enables us to see that change may be uncomfortable, but it’s a constant in our lives. It’s the way God created the earth and the universe. It’s the way He set a circular rhythm of life and seasons as part of His plan.

So as we pray for you, Momma, in whatever transition you’re going through tonight, remember that you have already successfully navigated many seasons in the past and will go through many more in the future. God sees and directs them all.

Tonight we pray for the momma who is going through a transition. Lord, this momma didn’t feel ready. Maybe her baby is going to school or to college. Maybe she is going back to work or coming home after years in her career. Maybe she is making a big decision that impacts everything, and it’s all new! Lord, You are God on both sides of the sea. You are the God before this transition and the God after. You have led her all this way. Hold her close to You as she processes this big change and comfort her as only You can.

We ask in Jesus’s name, amen.
