Who Needs A Win

I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill.

“WHAT DO THEY DO WITH ALL THE RED CARPET when the Oscars are over?” I asked my local friend as we walked down Hollywood Boulevard the night before the awards ceremony. The street was packed with tourists and contractors setting up for the next day. Just twenty-four hours later, television crews and celebrities alike would walk the very same street where I now stood.

“I’m not sure,” my friend replied.

I was visiting California for a ministry opportunity and to spend time with a new friend. We had a few moments to spare, and she asked what I wanted to do. On my first trip to Los Angeles, all I could think to reply was, “Maybe we could see the Hollywood Walk of Fame.” I had no idea that the Oscars would be held there the next day or how much chaos surrounded that portion of an already busy city.

A man laying carpet on the other side of a security fence overheard our conversation. “We get rid of it,” he answered. “All of this will be replaced next year.” Coming from a small town in Oklahoma, the thought of all that waste seemed inconceivable. I’m sure my face showed it. But then the man did something remarkable.

This guy who looked like he was in charge but was dressed like one of the team picked up his tool, cut a strip from the edge of the carpet, and passed it to me through the fence.

I had no idea that just eighteen months later, my family and I would be living thirty miles from that street or that three years later nearly to the day I’d be invited to walk a red-carpet event at the Chinese Theatre on the same street.

In some seasons of motherhood, we may feel like we’ve missed our greatest opportunities and our best days are behind us. We think, Now I’m just a mom, and nothing exciting will ever happen for me again. But, Momma, God has a perfect plan for you. You may feel like you are on the outside looking at exciting and fun events on the other side of a fence. But there is an open door for you in the Lord’s timing. Your dreams are not dead, even if they feel dormant.

The Lord has so many unique gifts and experiences for you in the future that you have no idea about in this moment. Just trust Him to bring it all to pass. Ask Him, and He will hear your heart: “I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill.” You will soon realize the purpose of what He is placing into your hands today. Breakthrough is coming, friend. We are believing with you.

Tonight we pray for the momma who needs a win. Lord, she is exhausted. All the stress, disappointment, and opportunities that have fallen through have made her feel like even hoping for a breakthrough . . . is hopeless. Lord, You see this momma. You see the other side of this mountain that she has named defeat. You know that the two of you will make it to the other side together. We ask that You’d pour fresh hope into her heart. Give her faith to believe in what You are about to do. She’s about to experience a breakthrough. Help her see it!

We ask in Jesus’s name, amen.
