Who Needs To Know Today Mattered

His master replied, “Well done, good and faithful servant!”

MOMMA, YOU MAY FEEL EXHAUSTED MOST DAYS. We do too. But, like us, you trust the Lord with all your heart. You understand the gift your children are to your life even when they require so much of your time and effort. In Scripture, we read that Jesus had much to say about those who cared for His precious treasures.

Jesus used stories to teach. Men and women would hear His words and apply the lessons of the stories to their lives. One story Jesus tells is known as the Parable of the Three Servants. It speaks about the Kingdom of Heaven and the work that must be done, but I believe that if we listen closely to Jesus’s words, we’ll see that He’s speaking directly to us.

Jesus said a man was going on a long journey: “He called together his servants and entrusted his money to them while he was gone. He gave five bags of silver to one, two bags of silver to another, and one bag of silver to the last—dividing it in proportion to their abilities. He then left on his trip” (Matthew 25:14-15, NLT).

While the man was away on his journey, each of the three men entrusted with his finances invested the money differently.

The servant who received the five bags of silver began to invest the money and earned five more. The servant with two bags of silver also went to work and earned two more. But the servant who received the one bag of silver dug a hole in the ground and hid the master’s money.

After a long time their master returned from his trip and called them to give an account of how they had used his money. The servant to whom he had entrusted the five bags of silver came forward with five more and said, “Master, you gave me five bags of silver to invest, and I have earned five more.”

The master was full of praise. “Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!”

The Lord likewise praised the one who invested the two bags of silver given to him by his master. But the Lord did not have any praise for the one who buried his gift in fear. Only those who understood what they had been entrusted with received the praise.

Momma, can you hear the voice of the Father today praising all of your efforts? What you did today mattered. You are doing a good job. Has anyone told you that in a while? As a momma in her fortieth year of motherhood, let me offer some words of encouragement to you right now. Listen closely. You are a good momma. How do I know? Because the hallmark of a good momma is one who cares deeply about her children, the one who loves the Lord, the one who tries her best even if she isn’t perfect. Good moms know that even when they are exhausted and ready for the day to be over, their children have been entrusted to them by their Father in heaven. So they turn their hearts toward Him and remember that they don’t just love their children well for the sake of their kids—they love their children well because they are gifts from God.

Your heavenly Father is proud of you. And just as He said to the faithful servant, He says to you now, “Well done, my good and faithful servant. . . . Let’s celebrate together!”

Tonight we pray for the momma who needs to know today mattered. Lord, there are long days and then there are days like these when she just wants rest. She did well today, Lord. She might not feel like it, but she did. She did her best. She is a good momma. And she deserves to be told that. Lord, thank You for strengthening this momma. Multiply her rest tonight and fill her with peace.
