Who Needs Tomorrow To Be Different

Brother Saul, the Lord—Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here—has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.

IT WAS 2022, six months since my hysterectomy at just thirty-five, and my brain was not functioning as it had before. Every day I would wake up feeling more and more unlike myself. I struggled with short-term memory, which impacted so many areas of my life. I prayed, “Lord, how do I find my way forward?” Going back wasn’t an option, but in this new normal, I needed my mental focus to be closer to how it had been before surgery. My family, my career, and my own mental health depended on it.

Do you know what happened? Day by day the Lord healed my brain and body. It was so gradual that I didn’t notice at first, but when I compared how I felt nearly a year after surgery to those first few months post-operation, I saw just how far I’d come. My friend, it can be hard to be desperate for change for so long, just wishing tomorrow would be different. But perhaps today is already a little different from yesterday, and tomorrow you’ll be a little closer to your miracle than where you stand right now.

A man named Saul was once in a seemingly desperate situation as well. He was a prominent religious leader who hated everything Jesus and His followers did. In fact, Saul didn’t just hate them—he would seek out Christians and put them to death.

On his way to Damascus with papers granting him permission to persecute Christians in that town, Saul had an encounter with Jesus that changed his life forever.

As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”

“Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked.

“I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” he replied. “Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”

Saul stood up a changed man. His spiritual eyes had been opened, but he had lost his eyesight. For three days he was blind and did not eat or drink. Finally he encountered a Christian named Ananias, who greeted him this way: “Brother Saul, the Lord—Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here—has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.”

I love that Ananias’s first recorded word to Saul is “Brother.” With that simple word, he accepted Saul into the fellowship of the faith. With that simple word, he acknowledged Saul’s place in the body of Christ: You are one of us now. And then the miracle happened. “Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized, and after taking some food, he regained his strength” (Acts 9:18-19).

Momma, perhaps you are like Saul tonight, waiting for your miracle. Perhaps you need a miracle when the sun comes up tomorrow. Perhaps you need someone to remind you of who you are in the body of Christ. You may need someone to say, “Sister.” Maybe you need someone to tell you, “It won’t always be this way. It won’t always be this hard or painful. Have hope. Soon the answers will come. Everything will change. God is preparing you for what is coming next.” Let’s pray and believe for your miracle tonight.

Tonight we pray for the momma who needs tomorrow to be different. Lord, she needs to wake up and find that answers have come during the night. She needs change and hope to rush in. Lord, You have a solution for what she’s facing. You know how this whole situation will resolve or shift for her good. She might feel stuck, but there is joy coming in the morning, and it’s going to shake things up. So tonight we ask You to meet this momma with supernatural expectancy. Fill her with hope so that as she closes her eyes, she can look forward to what will come with the morning light. Bless her.

Lord, tonight give me new eyes to see this dilemma in my life as You see it. Show me just how far I’ve come already regarding . . .
