Who Wonders How She Is Going To Get Through This Situation

IN THE SUMMER OF 1977, I went on a mission trip to the island of Haiti. The conditions were pretty rough, but I was making it just fine—that is, until we were told that we had to go by boat over to a smaller island, where we would preach the gospel for a few days.

On the day of our departure, we boarded a small vessel that had no cover but did have a little place in the back where I could sit. The ocean was very rough, and I became seasick almost immediately. The waves tossed the little boat, and it was just too much for me to handle at that time, but there was no turning back. Onward we went.

Once we arrived, we stayed in a very primitive cabin with no beds, so I slept on the dirt floor with my blankets. After we were there a couple of days, I started thinking about the ocean trip back to the main island.

I was sitting on the cabin’s little porch, enjoying a cool afternoon breeze while praying about the upcoming ride over the ocean. I asked the Lord to help me because I didn’t know how I was going to get through it. Finally, I reached this conclusion: If only I had some motion sickness pills, I think I could get back okay.

No sooner had I prayed this than a tall blonde woman walked up the dirt path in front of the porch. She asked what I was doing on the island, so I explained that we were preaching in the local church. I told her I had been so sick on the way here that I’d just been praying and telling the Lord I wished I had some motion sickness pills for the journey home. She reached in her pocket and pulled out two little packets of motion sickness pills. She put them on the porch rail, smiled kindly, said her goodbyes, and left.

I was in the remotest place on earth and needed something I was positive wasn’t available for hundreds of miles. But as soon as I prayed, the Lord miraculously supplied exactly what I needed. Do you suppose that woman was an angel?

In the book of Acts, the apostle Paul was also in a desperate situation. He had found out about a plot to kill him. His enemies were watching the city gates for their opportunity. But Acts 9:25 tells us: “His followers took him by night and lowered him in a basket through an opening in the wall.”

In other words, the Lord made a way of escape for Paul—an opening he could get through to continue on his journey toward his destiny. Momma, I don’t know what your insurmountable situation is, but I do know that God is able to make a way of escape. He knows exactly what you need before you even tell Him. Tonight let’s ask Him for what we need.

Tonight we pray for the momma who wonders how she is going to get through this situation. It feels overwhelming. It feels bigger than she is. Sometimes she feels as if she is down and can’t get back up. Tonight, Lord, we see Your hand reaching down to pull her up. You are with her. You will protect and shield her heart. You will help her overcome every situation.

We believe because we ask in Jesus’s name, amen.
