Created In The Image Of God

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

Psalm 139:14

So many of us identify ourselves by what we do for a living. “I am a teacher. I am a doctor. I am a caregiver.” Even if we’re proud of all those good things we do, God reminds us that who we are is so much more than what we do—good or bad. We are made in His image, and that is as good as it gets.

We also do things we’re not proud of. Adam and Eve disobeyed God (“I did a bad thing”) and felt shame (“I am bad”). They set a pattern none of us are immune to. The apostle Paul said it plainly: “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). We all do—and say and think—things that fail to honor God and others. But here’s where God wants to remind us of who we are.

Scripture doesn’t give us a message of shame, even if like Adam and Eve we fall tragically short. Instead, the Bible says that you are “ fearfully and wonderfully made.” That you are created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27).

Nothing we can do will change our value or our worth in His eyes.

Lord, may I find my value in Your love for me—a love You offer despite my shortcomings. I am so grateful to be made in Your image.
