Do Something You’ve Never Done Before
Do Something You’ve Never Done Before
Sing to the LORD a new song, his praise from the ends of the earth.
Isaiah 42:10
I read an article many years ago about an order of French nuns whose average age was ninety. The journalist asked the secret to their longevity and their response was twofold: they committed to keep their minds active by continually reading and learning, and every month they did something they had never done before. If it works for ninety-year-old nuns, it will work for you and me!
Why not try the following:
• Research the Web or read a book about a subject you know absolutely nothing about.
• Learn a new language.
• Enroll in a college or night class in something you’ve always been interested in but never thought was very practical.
• Develop a new skill.
Personally, at this stage of my life, I’m working on my master’s degree so I can grow in my calling as an evangelist. I’m learning so many new things as I’m reading books I never knew existed. So try something new that will enlarge you—spiritually, mentally, and emotionally. If you will, you’ll take on the capacity to carry more, and you’ll find new things to praise our loving God for.
Lord, thank You for helping me enlarge my capacity for life—and ultimately for You!
