Number Your Days
Number Your Days
Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
Psalm 90:12
Our days are ordered differently, but I’m guessing we both have routines. We probably eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We may conquer laundry, grocery shopping, and vacuuming. Orchestrate homework, dance, and sports. Get everyone to church, youth group, or Bible study. These are good things, necessary things. And routines can be so helpful. But when they become a rut, we may need to evaluate how we’re spending our time.
Today is truly one of a kind. It won’t be repeated. Our days are numbered, ordered by God. And we have a specific purpose we are called to embrace and fulfill in those numbered and ordered days.
Before you were born, God had a plan for your life, an assignment that matches your gifts and your heart (Psalm 139:16). This unique role you have in the body of Christ may take courage and strength you don’t have right now, but that’s by design. God wants us to work with Him even as we work for Him, and He will carry us through our days.
“Teach us to number our days.” What a beautiful way of saying . . .
Teach us to see our days as You do, Lord, and to use them wisely to fulfill all the purpose You placed inside of us!
