Remembering Promises

The LORD is trustworthy in all he promises and faithful in all he does.

Psalm 145:3

Sometimes we have to be intentional about remembering what we want to remember. Birthdays, meetings, errands, appointments, oil changes. We write things down or put them in the calendars in our phones so we remember what we are supposed to be doing when.

For the same reason, it’s important to be intentional about remembering the promises of God that we read in His Word. Otherwise, naturally, we will forget them. We need to remember, for instance, that greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world (1 John 4:4); that God brings beauty out of ashes (Isaiah 61:3); that He will never leave us nor forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:6); and that nothing can separate us from His love (Romans 8:38–39).

When we remember promises like these, we will find courage to step out in faith. When we forget what God has said, we more easily react to our circumstances in fear. Faith activates us; fear immobilizes and even cripples us. Today, as you make your to-do lists or calendar, remember God’s promises too—so you are able to walk in faith and not fear.

Lord, help me remember Your gracious promises to me. Seal them in my heart, so I can walk without fear.
