The Big Picture

The Big Picture

Our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.

2 Corinthians 4:17

Whatever challenge you’re facing in life, it probably doesn’t seem very “light” and “momentary” to you. Minimizing those troubles or adopting an “it could be worse” attitude likely won’t help long-term. The only way to put things in perspective is to reflect on how unthinkably big and great your God is.

Develop the habit of looking at your problems against the backdrop of eternity—and an eternity of joy, at that. Remember that God is bigger than any opposition, disease, crisis, question, struggle, frustration, hurt, or offense the world and the Devil may send your way. The last time I checked, the Devil was small enough to fit under my feet, and God is big enough to fill the heavens and earth. So wisely look toward the eternal glory of the one you love and trust.

From day-to-day troubles to life-changing issues, all of them—the apostle Paul wrote—are “light and momentary troubles” compared to the eternity of joy God has for us.

Even as you address everyday but essential life stuff, as well as those critical decision points, keep an eye on God’s goodness, faithfulness, and eternal glory. He is powerful to overcome any trouble you face.

Lord, I reset my focus on things eternal, on Your great glory, goodness, and faithfulness. I keep my perspective balanced on how big You are.
