We Want To Get Well

We Want To Get Well

When Jesus saw [the invalid] lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to get well?”

John 5:6

Do you want to get well? It seems like such an odd question posed to someone who obviously would want to be well. And yet, Jesus found it necessary to ask.

Jesus was engaging the man’s faith, inviting him into the healing process. Receiving our health and wholeness isn’t just receiving Jesus doing something to us; it’s us actively taking hold of what He’s offering.

Jesus wisely asked the man who had been unable to stand or walk for thirty-eight years if he wanted to be well. He really was asking him if he was ready to participate, to cooperate, to engage his faith in the process.

Everything Jesus offers us is something we have to choose to receive—to reach out and take. Whether that’s forgiving others who have hurt us, or letting go of anger or bitterness, there is always a part for us to play in receiving our healing and wholeness.

So choose today to engage in the process. Choose to receive your healing—by forgiving, letting go, and freeing others from being indebted to you.

Lord, I want to be well, to be free and whole. I release others and receive all that Jesus has for me.
