envy - How should I respond when I am envious of others? You are jealous of one another and quarrel with each other. Doesn’t that prove you are controlled by your sinful nature? 1 Corinthians 3:3 Anger is cruel, and wrath is like a flood, but jealousy is even more dangerous. Proverbs 27:4 Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory. Colossians 3:2-4 In this new life, it doesn’t matter if you are a Jew or a Gentile, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized, slave, or free. Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us. Colossians 3:11 GOD ASSURES US that when our thoughts are focused on him and his will, we will no longer feel the need to compete with others because the things of this world won’t seem so important anymore. When we are envious of those around us, longing to have a nicer home, a flawless appearance, more status at work, or more possessions, we need to remember God’s promises in his Word. He is able to give us satisfying and fulfilling lives when we look to him alone. Fix your thoughts on him, thank him for all you have now and will receive for eternity, and watch how the temptation to envy others fades away. Lord, I feel envious of others because . . .
